Baker Rifle
This cocktail is a nod to the true significance of Cinco de Mayo. Commonly mistaken for Mexican Independence Day (which falls on September 16th), the 5th of May actually marks the Mexico's victory against the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. Supplied with Baker Rifles by the British army, the outnumbered Mexican forces were able to defeat the French military and offer a boost of patriotic pride to the nation.
Make the cocktail
- Mix
- 3/4 oz
- Lime-strength grapefruit juice
- 3/4 oz
- Simple syrup
- 1 1/2 oz
- London Dry Gin
- 3/4 oz
- Falernum liqueur
- 2 oz
- Seltzer
- 1 dropper/dash
- Bittercube Chipotle Cacao Bitters
- Glass
- Collins with ice
- Garnish
- Thin lime wheel
Add all of the ingredients except seltzer to a cocktail shaker and then fill with ice. Shake with a fluid, strong motion. Add seltzer to shaker and strain into Collins glass. Fill glass with ice.
For a low ABV variation, use N/A gin.
Lime-strength grapefruit juice
32 oz Fresh grapefruit juice
1 ½ Tbs Citric Acid
2 tsp Malic Acid
Combine ingredients, blend with immersion blender or whisk until acids are dissolved.
